STATEMENT

I love great art. Among my favorite painters are Batoni, Gerome, Bouguereau, David and Kramskoy. There are many contemporary academic painters that I love also.

Painting for me is a joy and often a challenge. I work mainly in oils though I am equally proficient in acrylics and drawing. I use different sub surfaces for my work. My current favorite is Aquarelle Arches, Hot Pressed, 100% Cotton 140lb paper for oils. I also enjoy painting in oils on copper, stainless steel as well as canvas, masonite, gesso board and multimedia board. My commissioned portraits of people and as pets are always done on linen.

I look forward to painting everyday and it is such a joy. Though I've received awards for my portraits, I love to paint all subjects.

BIOGRAPHY

Though my ability to draw was recognized early in life when I was awarded the Saint Guadens Medal at the age of 16 from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I didn't seriously consider becoming a painter until the year 2000 at the age of 62 when I decided to take a painting class at my local senior center. This led to my studying portraiture at the School of Visual Arts for four years with the portrait artist Marvin Mattelson and during the same period studying anatomy and drawing at the Art Students League, with Michael Burban, Sherrry Camphy, Lenoid Gervitz, and Costas Vavagiaki. Sherry Camhy encouraged me to venture out and exhibit my work as well join professional organizations.
